A "valid numeric line" is a non-empty line that, after stripping leading/trailing whitespace, can be parsed as a finite float and is NOT NaN or Infinity. Invalid lines (empty, whitespace-only, non-numeric, NaN, Infinity, -Infinity) are silently skipped and not counted.
